A modular kitchen in Bengaluru with laminate shutters and a granite counter costs about ₹1.6–2.5 L for a 14 ft L-shape, ₹2–3.1 L for an 18 ft parallel and ₹2.3–3.5 L for a 20 ft U-shape. A premium PU-finish kitchen with quartz runs from about ₹3 L to ₹6.5 L across the same layouts.
These are indicative planning ranges that exclude GST, appliances, the sink and plumbing. GST of 18% usually applies to interior work; confirm with your firm.
Cost by layout and finish
The layout matters mostly because it decides how many running feet of counter you build. The table uses typical lengths for each layout in a Bengaluru apartment.
| Layout | Typical length | Laminate + granite | Acrylic + granite | PU + quartz |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight | 10 ft | ₹1.1 L – ₹1.8 L | ₹1.5 L – ₹2.3 L | ₹2.2 L – ₹3.3 L |
| L-shape | 14 ft | ₹1.6 L – ₹2.5 L | ₹2.2 L – ₹3.1 L | ₹3 L – ₹4.5 L |
| Parallel | 18 ft | ₹2 L – ₹3.1 L | ₹2.8 L – ₹4 L | ₹3.9 L – ₹5.8 L |
| U-shape | 20 ft | ₹2.3 L – ₹3.5 L | ₹3.1 L – ₹4.5 L | ₹4.3 L – ₹6.5 L |
Each range covers base and wall cabinets along the full counter length, the countertop, and hardware such as hinges, channels and baskets. Adding a tall pantry or appliance unit costs another ₹35,000–70,000.
What you pay per running foot
Cabinets make up most of the bill, so the shutter finish is the biggest lever after length:
- Laminate: ₹9,000–13,000 per running ft. Durable, easy to clean, many colours.
- Acrylic: ₹13,000–18,000 per running ft. High gloss, but shows fingerprints.
- PU lacquer: ₹18,000–26,000 per running ft. Smooth painted look, needs gentle care.
The countertop adds ₹1,200–2,000 per running ft for granite or ₹2,500–4,000 for quartz. Hardware adds ₹1,200–2,500 per running ft depending on the drawers, channels and pull-outs you choose.
L-shape: the common choice
The L-shape uses two adjoining walls and suits most 2 BHK and 3 BHK kitchens in Bengaluru apartments. It keeps the sink, hob and fridge close together without blocking the doorway.
The corner is the catch. A plain corner cabinet wastes deep space, so many homeowners add a corner pull-out or carousel. That fitting adds to the hardware cost, so ask for it as a separate line in the quote.
Parallel: best for narrow kitchens
A parallel (galley) kitchen has two counters facing each other. It suits long, narrow kitchens where an L-shape would block the walkway.
- Keep about 4 ft between the two counters; 3 ft is the practical minimum.
- You get two full runs of storage with no awkward corners.
- It often splits neatly into a cooking side and a washing side.
Because you build two runs, the total length is usually higher than an L-shape in a similar-sized room, and so is the price.
U-shape: most storage, needs space
A U-shape uses three walls and gives the most counter and storage. It works well for families who cook a lot or buy provisions in bulk.
It needs a larger kitchen than most compact apartments offer. Leave at least 3–4 ft of clear floor in the middle, or the room will feel cramped. With two corners to handle, the hardware bill also goes up.
If your kitchen is small, a well-planned L-shape usually works better than a squeezed U-shape.
What is usually not included
- Chimney, hob, built-in oven and other appliances
- Sink, tap and plumbing changes
- Wall tiles or backsplash above the counter
- Electrical points and lighting
- GST
Tips before you sign
- Measure the counter length yourself and check how the quote counts the corners.
- Ask for BWP plywood for the sink base cabinet, where water spills are common.
- Get the shutter finish, carcass material and hardware listed in writing.
- Compare at least three quotes on the same length and finish, not just the total.
